Witnesses were Henry Martin, James Graves and William Attkins and the deed was recorded 17 Sep 1745. His mark was a right side up W. His wife Lydia released her dower right. Of singnificance is the name Attkins, since William’s daughter Lydia married an Atkins. Also significant is the appearance of a William Owen as security when Josia Payne died in Pittsylvania County in 1785. On 23 Oct 1752 William Owen of Halifax County made his will. He must then have been about 79 years old. The date the will was proved is unreadable but another party’s inventory recorded on the same page shows the date 18 sep 1753. He had no wife at this time. The bequests in the will cannot all be read clearly. To a son (unreadable short name, possibly John) he gave "one sellen starlen, to William one shellen starlen, to (La)nsford one shellen starlen, to A ( ), an unreadable short name of a daughter, he gave one shellen starlen, to Marey Gennes one shellen starlen, to Ann Medlin, one shellen starlen, to Joaner Kearby one Negro gal named Diner, to Leyda Adkens one shellen starlen, to Francis Kearby, one bed and furniture, pot, dishes, basons and seet of "Wedes", and to his grandson John Kearby his horse, bridle and saddle.
